Tax Authority in Aden Discusses Field Operations for Monitoring and Controlling Smuggled Cigarettes

A meeting held today in the capital, Aden, chaired by the Head of the Tax Authority, Dr. Jamal Sarour, discussed the issue of smuggled and unofficial cigarettes.

The meeting, was attended by Abdulhakim Moawen, General Manager of the Tax Office in Aden; Wasim Al-Omari, General Manager of the Industry and Commerce Office in Aden; Mohamed Al-Jahafi, Deputy Director of Major Taxpayers; Basel Al-Salami, Director of Anti-Smuggling; and Fadl Swaileh, Director of Consumer Protection, reviewed the outcomes of the Supreme Committee for Combating Smuggling’s meeting. The committee emphasized the need to control smuggled and locally manufactured cigarettes that do not bear the official tax stamp issued by the Aden Tax Authority.

The attendees also discussed the measures in place to control and prevent cigarettes with tax stamps issued by the Houthi militia in all liberated governorates.

The meeting stressed the importance of taking legal action against anyone who sells or trades in any type of smuggled cigarettes or those without the official tax stamp. Such individuals will be prosecuted and referred to the judiciary.
